Paul Leger was born in the Wild West gold mining town of Virginia, South Africa. After completing high school, he stumbled through a degree in Journalism and a MA in Psychology at Rhodes University.
He cycled northern and eastern Europe, worked on a kibbutz, and eventually returned to South Africa to take on an academic research job. Very soon after he fled the ivory tower, strapped a bike to the back of his VW Golf and set out to write South Africa’s first guide to mountain biking trails. This was followed by six editions of the popular Guide to Budget Getaways – the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and two novels (copies available on request).
Following a hiatus filled with property development and tourism in various forms, the investing bug finally bit. And refused to let go. Starting with an interest in general developed listed markets, this has expanded into the farflung and lesser explored pockets of the investment world – places where fundamentals actually still appear to count. With skin of his own in the game, The Frontier Investor is a side-gig aimed at like-minded investment mavericks – non-pinstripe retail investors (and bespoke funds operating in these regions) with an appetite for off-the-beaten-track investing and exotic travel. Enjoy!
